27th Annual Pro Am Golf Tournament to Benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark and LifeCamp
FedEx Cup champion Bill Haas will tee off with former Masters and U.S. Open Champion, 3-time Ryder cup team member, Champions Tour PGA Champion and all-time gallery favorite Fuzzy Zoeller on June 25, 2012 to help raise funds for Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark (BGCN) and LifeCamp. Specifically, the money raised will support summer day camps operated by both organizations that provide spirit-enriching summer experiences and academic, artistic and athletic activities outside of the city to over 800 inner city children.
Haas and Zoeller will be joined by four PGA Tour golfers,
Ricky Barnes, Matt Bettencourt, Charley Hoffman and Chez Reavie, to play 18-holes with a group of amateur golf enthusiasts at the Somerset Hills Country Club in Bernardsville, NJ in order to raise funds for Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark and LifeCamp.
"The Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark are honored to be a part of this long-running Pro Am tournament that enables us to provide critical services to the young people of Newark," said Thomas Valen, BGCN Board of Trustees President.
This year, spectators will also have the chance to watch the pros up close in an informal and intimate setting by purchasing a gallery pass available for $100 each. Unlike the distance and silence spectators must maintain in the gallery at most tournaments, here they will be able to walk
along with the pros and speak with them in-between holes. In addition to close proximity to the pros, gallery ticket holders will enjoy lunch, as well as an award ceremony and reception after the event.
“I’m honored to be able to participate once again with this
Tournament that directly supports two exceptional organizations that provide unique educational programs for kids,” said Zoeller, who has participated in the Tournament for 26 of its 27 years. “I’m lucky to be able to make my
living by playing outside on some of the most beautiful grounds and I’m proud to be able to help kids receive the fun and invaluable experience of learning and playing outdoors.”
MetLife, which has been an avid supporter of the Pro Am for many years, is the Presenting Sponsor. To date, the annual event has raised more than $5 million to benefit BGCN and LifeCamp.
“MetLife is pleased to continue our support of this event which helps to make a positive difference in the lives of inner-city children,” said Paul Sylvester, Senior Vice President, MetLife. “Both Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark and LifeCamp fill an important need in the lives of young people by providing them with a beautiful outdoor setting where they can participate in educational and enrichment activities with caring adults throughout the summer.”
“Golf is a game of discipline, focus and skill and we strive
to instill those qualities in the kids who participate in LifeCamp,” said Patty McCormick, LifeCamp Program Officer. “The values modeled to our kids by these athletes and our community of supporters teaches them that with hard work, dedication and perseverance you can achieve success at anything.”

About Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark
Founded in 1938, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark (BGCN) is a private non-profit youth development organization
which provides a safe setting in which Newark youngsters, through proper assistance and nurturing, can develop the educational and social skills, emotional strength and personal confidence needed to function in a highly complex, competitive society. Each year, the clubs reach thousands of children, ages 6 to 18, with a wide variety of structured educational and recreational programs and activities at its Central Ward Clubhouse and four
satellite locations in the City of Newark.
About LifeCamp
Founded in 1923, LifeCamp is a summer day camp in rural
Pottersville, New Jersey that is structured to meet the inner-city child’s need for a spirit-enriching summer experience outside of the city. With an overall environment that allows its campers to feel special in the most positive way, LifeCamp helps children develop self-confidence, provides academic enrichment and support, encourages physical fitness, promotes good values and ethical behavior, and encourages children’s respect for their
environment, their community and themselves. Each summer LifeCamp serves an average of 300 children per day from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark and select charter schools per day for six weeks during July and August.
