Young Local Dancers Take Top Award at National Competition
The Maria Priadka School of Dance won the top award at the Dancers Inc. National Dance Competition in Portland, Maine on July 25 - 26, 2012. Competing in the Junior Group, the dancers from South Orange, Maplewood, Orange and Newark performed an Ethnic Fusion dance titled Come to Meh.
Choreographed by Deborah Rembert, the number took the high gold award in the all-star category, which was the most advanced category for Juniors. Dancers in the Junior Group range in age from 9 to 12 years old.
Come to Meh was also judged the overall grand champion of the competition, according to a press release from the South Orange-based school.
