21-Year-Old Arrested with Cache of Weapons, Ammo in Car

Jacob Jimenez, of Newark, was arrested last week by Bloomfield police in the area of JFK Drive North and Franklin Street.

A 21-year-old city man was arrested Dec. 29 in Bloomfield for impersonating a police officer and carrying an arsenal of guns and bullets — including hollow-point bullets — in his car, according to police.

Jacob Jimenez was pulled over by Bloomfield police on Dec. 29 in the area of JFK Drive North and Franklin Street after a report of suspicious activity. Jimenez, who had a passenger in the car, was involved in a dispute with another vehicle at the time of the stop.

When stopped by police in his 1999 Ford Crown Victoria, Jimenez allegedly held out a gold badge from the driver’s side window and said he worked for the Newark Police Department, according to authorities. Jimenez later said he was a volunteer.

While being questioned, police saw a gun holster on the rear seat of the car and a silver 9-mm black handgun on the floor. A second handgun, a silver .40-caliber Glock, was also found. It was loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition, officials said.

After the gun discovery, Jimenez was arrested.

A further search also found the following items: 12 hollow-point bullets, 40 regular bullets, four pairs of handcuffs, a bulletproof vest, pepper spray and an air-soft handgun.

Jimenez's bail was set at $25,000.

Bloomfield police also reported Jimenez was being investigated by the Newark Police Department for allegedly activating emergency lights and a siren in his car in an attempt to pull over a vehicle.
