Annual event Saturday showcased east Ferry Street in an eco-friendly way

Hundreds attended the second-annual Ballantine Green Festival Saturday, an eco-friendly community celebration held at the site of the former Ballantine brewery in the Ironbound.

Vendors selling environmentally friendly products, students and staff from Ironbound schools, as well as musical acts such as the Meletrix Jazz Band were all at Saturday’s event, which was sponsored by the Ironbound Community Corp.

There was also an “Eco Village,” where residents were able to drop off electronics and batteries for recycling, as well as partake in a host of exciting environmental demonstrations.

Other groups taking part include the Greater Newark Conservancy, Urban Renewal Corp. and Rutgers Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development. The Ironbound Business Improvement District, East Ward Councilman Augusto Amador and Home Depot also supported the event.
