Essex County College, 303 University Ave., is hosting a free lecture series in honor of Black History Month.
On Tuesday, Feb. 19 the school kicks off the first-annual Garvey-Nkrumah Lecture Series with an address by Dr. Greg E. Carr, chair of Afro-American studies at Howard University. The event will be held in Smith Hall on the main campus from 11:30 am to 1 pm.
The series is designed to highlight the global African Diaspora and encompasses the perspective of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and Marcus Garvey, who founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association/African Communities League in 1917.
