City Man Killed in Bus Accident

72-year-old victim struck this morning

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision.

Raul E. Medina, a 72-year-old Newark man, was struck and killed today by an NJTransitbus at approximately 9 am in the vicinity of Clinton Avenue and Astor Street in Newark. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:26 am., the prosecutor's office said in a statement. 

Medina was traveling on foot when he was struck by a bus traveling eastbound on Clinton Avenue. The bus continued from the scene. It was not apparent that the bus operator had knowledge that the pedestrian was struck. The bus was eventually stopped.
