Contractor Killed by Car in Newark

Senior citizen injured in accident that injures two others.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office and Newark police are investigating the death of a man who was apparently killed while he worked outside of Saint Michael’s Medical Center in Newark Monday morning.

David Seeley, 50, of Washington Township, and two other men were working as contractors near 111 Central Ave., close to the entrance of the hospital around 10:30 a.m. when a 70-year-old Newark man is believed to have lost control of his car and he struck and killed Seeley.

The driver, whose name has not been released, then struck two other unnamed men, ages 41 and 52.

The two men were transported to University Hospital in critical condition. Their conditions have since been upgraded to guarded condition.

The driver has also been hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Seeley was pronounced dead at Saint Michael’s Medical Center.

As of Monday night, no charges have been filed against the driver.
