Firefighters Collecting Books for Newark Preschoolers

NFD taking part in 'Adopt a School' program

Newark fire houses will not just be beacons of safety anymore, but centers of youth literacy too.

City firefighters are teaming up with the Newark public schools and the Newark Preschool Council for an “Adopt-a-School” program, which was kicked off Friday with a book drive at the Engine 10 firehouse on Clinton Avenue.

The aim of the program is to provide positive role models for the youngest learners while also providing high-quality literature for students enrolled in the city’s preschool programs. Book drives will be hosted at city firehouses on an ongoing basis.

Firefighters will also visit and read to city youth as part of the program.
