Man Charged in Killing Baby Girl
Alexis Robinson, 29 months, died Wednesday from blunt force trauma.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 29-month-old baby girl in Newark earlier this week, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio have announced.
Tyrail Jones, formerly of East Orange, has been charged with the murder of Alexis Robinson, who died of blunt force trauma Wednesday after being transported from her home in the 500 block of Elizabeth Avenue to Newark Beth Israel Hospital. An autopsy performed Thursday determined Robinson had been the victim of homicide.
Jones, who is not the biological father of the child, was living with the mother in Newark.
The death is the first of two child homicides in the city this week. Two-year-old Mikhy Robinson was shot to death Friday morning inside his South Ward home. The two incidents are unrelated, despite the children sharing the same last name, authorities said.
