Most Non-Emergency City Services Suspended Thursday, Friday
Trash pickup, senior transportation, other services affected
Most non-emergency services will be suspended this Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. City hall will also be closed.
Services affected include street sweeping, trash and recyclable pickup. Those who use private contractors for trash pickup will see service resume Friday, Nov. 23.
Municipal garbage and paper recycling collection will resume on Monday, Nov. 26. Residents must place their refuse at their curbs before 6 am that day, and pick-ups will be made as regularly scheduled.
The Department of Child and Family Well-Being’s inspection services, transportation for seniors, and health clinic will not operate on Thursday, Nov. 22 and on Friday, Nov. 23. In addition, the Division of Vital Statistics will be closed. Residents will not be able to apply for permits, birth certificates, name-change certificates, or marriage licenses, nor pay water or tax bills at City Hall.
The Municipal Court will also be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22 and on Friday, Nov. 23. However, a judge will be available to preside over bail hearings for defendants in custody, on Friday, Nov. 23. Residents can make payments on parking and traffic tickets through the website www.njmcdirect.com. To utilize this website, residents will need their summons number, including the prefix, and the City of Newark’s court code, which is 0714.
