Newark Man Arrested on Drug Charges

Sheriff's officers make bust following surveillance

A city man was arraigned Tuesday on multiple drug charges following his arrest Monday afternoon by Essex County sheriff’s detectives.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that as part of an ongoing investigation detectives from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics executed a search warrant for the second floor apartment at 303 Sherman Ave.

Fontoura said the sheriff’s detectives established a surveillance operation at that location early on Monday afternoon and observed the target of the investigation, William “Cool Will” Torres, 46, leave the home, and was then followed by detectives who questioned him.

After Torres reportedly admitted he was carrying narcotics, he was searched and found carrying two magazine wrappers, each filled with 50 glassine envelopes of heroin, stamped “FERRARI” in red ink, in his boots. Detectives also allegedly found 143 glassine envelopes of heroin, a sandwich bag containing loose heroin, 30 Xanax tablets, drug paraphernalia and 90 rounds of .22 caliber bullets in his apartment. The estimated street value of all the drugs is $8,500.

Torres was being held on $175,000 bail.
