Newark Man Dead After Crashing Stolen Motorcycle
Man crashes Suzuki, reported carjacked in July, into side of ice-cream truck
A Newark man is dead after crashing a stolen motorcycle into an ice-cream truck Monday night in Irvington, authorities announced.
Derrick Singleton, 23, died after crashing a 2011 Suzuki GSR 1100 motorcycle into the passenger side of an ice-cream truck at 7:34 p.m. in the area of Adams Street and Orange Avenue, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. He was pronounced dead at University Hospital at approximately 8:20 p.m.
The Suzuki had been reported carjacked on July 14.
The driver of the ice-cream truck was not injured.
An investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Vehicular Homicide Unit is active and ongoing.
