Newark Man Gets More than 12 Years for Carjacking
Incident occurred in Elizabeth in 2011
A city man was sentenced Wednesday to 150 months in prison for a carjacking in Elizabeth, US Attorney Paul Fishman announced.
On April 10, 2011, Jirrod Parker, 25, pulled a gun on a man as he approached his parked Lexus and demanded the victim’s keys and wallet. Shortly afterwards, Parker crashed the car as he was being chased by Elizabeth police. Parker was caught after he fled on foot and tried to break into a home.
Parker had already pled guilty to one count each of theft of a motor vehicle by force, violence and intimidation; use of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence; and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
In addition to the prison term, Parker will also have to undergo three years of supervised release and pay restitution of $7,867
