Newark police are searching for whoever shot at two of the city’s red light cameras, the department said in a statement late Friday.
Two cameras along Broad Street, at Murray Street and Raymond Boulevard, were damaged by gunfire early Friday morning, police said. No one was injured and no suspects have yet been identified.
In 2009 Newark became the first city in the state to install red light cameras, whose pictures and video are reviewed by officers in the traffic department before a ticket is mailed to a motorist. Newark now has 19 intersections with cameras.
In June, the state Department of Transportation forced Newark and 20 other communities to suspend ticketing at most intersections with red-light cameras because of doubts over whether the lights had been properly calibrated. The suspension was lifted last month.

I feel bad for the $cameras even though they are a $CAM. Cameras don't do bad things, people do bad things with cameras. Let's face it folks, if in the next Batman movie he started taking out all the red-light cameras in Gotham the whole movie theater would be cheering like crazy. Hey, wouldn't drones be a cool way of taking them out! There would be a lot of misbehaving adult children who would be crying hard when their expensive toy $cameras are getting broken. Who are they gonna beg for more? Santa Claus? No, he can't afford dem fancy toys. No one can. Least of all the poor people making dem car payments for insurance, gas, repairs, repos..............
