Report: Rice May Run for Mayor in 2014

West Ward Councilman had run unsuccessfully for Congress

West Ward Councilman Ron Rice is mulling a run for mayor of the city of Newark, PolitickerNJ  reported Tuesday.

Quoting two unnamed sources, PolitickerNJ said Rice, who was unsuccessful in his June Democratic primary bid for the 10th District Congressional seat, has privately expressed interest in the top job at city hall.

Other possible mayoral candidates have been somewhat less coy about their intentions.

Mayor Cory Booker, now in his second term, recently said publicly he may not run for mayor again when his current term expires in 2014, and is instead eyeing a US Senate seat or a shot at Gov. Chris Christie’s job.

Rice’s council colleague, Ras Baraka of the South Ward, announced during a meeting of the Newark Municipal Council in March that he was forming an exploratory committee to look into a mayoral run.

Baraka had supported Rice in his race for Congress this year.

Rice did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

People can always talk about good things about anyone but the fact of the matter is that over all Hollywood is a disappointment and if an individual wants to back someone that says and I quote " If I am here to run for a 3rd term as mayor please shoot me" go ahead but to most of us who do deal with booker on a daily basis and sees what he is really like rather than reading the GOOD media hype on the internet we know when dog poop smells like poop.

Again! The voters of Newark did not elect a mayor to just sit behind a desk. One of the jobs of a mayor is to, bring resources and economic developement back to his or her city.

Newarkers are in a desperate situation. As it stands now, we have no one who will be bold enough to defend the real interest of newwarkers. I worry we will go back to 15-20 years ago. Lord help us.
