X Factor Auditions Continue Thursday

Auditions at Newark's Prudential Center

Throngs of people are expected to line up today at Newark's Prudential Center for a second day of auditions for the televised talent show, the X Factor.

Yesterday, police blocked off Mulberry Street for the show, where people started lining up in the morning behind metal barricades. Even in the noon day heat, people kept on lining up to go inside as an arena employee sold cold bottles of water and bags of popcorn to the crowd.

In the afternoon yesterday, several people who were lined up said they were all audience members while people who were auditioning came in that morning.

Luis Torres, a 20-year-old Newark resident, said he had come as part of Fred's Team, a New York City-based cancer awareness group. He said X Factor paid the group to come as part of the show's charity efforts.

"I think it's going to be a great experience," he said.

There is a scheduled press conference today at the arena featuring judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid, and Nicole Scherzinger.

This the second round of judging for the X Factor show. They had come previously in April for auditions.
