The following is episode #10 in an ongoing podcast about surprising struggles in early parenthood.
I met my friend Kristin at prenatal yoga when she was four months pregnant and I was five. We bonded immediately over our complete and utter fear of childbirth. Then we both went through it and, yeah, a lot of it was just as terrible as we’d imagined. But none of that compared to the harrowing weeks immediately following the births of our daughters. In this episode I call up Kristin to reminisce over what we used to talk about during our frequent angsty phone calls a year ago. And she reveals something to me she’s never told me before.

Note: Kristin mentions something about how my husband Jonathan and I were really curious to know which one of us our daughter would resemble. She is referring to this radio story, which Jonathan wrote for This American Life a couple months before Sasha was born. To hear the story, scroll down to “Act Three: Potus Operandi.” You’ll learn our secret code name for Sasha back when she was a fetus.
