211 COMMUNITY IMPACT ADDS LITERACY TO THE AGENDA AT THE LINCOLN PARK MUSIC FESTIVAL

Newark, NJ-- This Sunday, July 28th, 211 Community Impact (211 Ci) was a “Celebrity Read” Story Tent during Hip-Hop Day of the Lincoln Park Music Park Festival in Newark, NJ.   The Celebrity Read Story Tent is part of the “Reading is for Life” campaign, a larger strategy to  promote a city-wide focus on literacy.

On July 28 from 1-5 local community leaders who have demonstrated a commitment to strengthening the lives of Newark residents read stories to children attending the festival. This unique activity at a hip-hop concert promoted literacy as a community activity and the Hip-Hop day of the festival as a family event. Scholastic generously sponsored books for children to take home from the event and a guest appearance by Clifford the Dog.

Dr. Lauren Wells, Co-Founder and Executive Director of 211 Ci states “Our goal is re-establish the connection between hip-hop, story-telling, community, and consciousness and to develop a community dialogue about literacy in our city.”
