Programs for Parents Receives Grant for Anti-Abuse Effort

The Investors Foundation, which provides funding to nonprofits in the communities served by Investors Bank, recently awarded a $5,000 grant to Newark-based Programs for Parents (P4P).  This is the third year in which the Foundation has given grant funding to benefit the agency’s P4P Career Academy program.

Programs for Parents is a not-for-profit organization that works to ensure that children get the best possible start in life. The organization supports children, families, and child care providers in Essex County, offering advocacy, education, referrals, sharing best practices, and access to available financial resources.  Since its founding in 1984, the agency has served more than 100,000 children and families.

P4P Career Academy, based in Montclair, provides adult career training to unemployed, welfare, and disabled students to help them succeed in today’s challenging economy.

"The grant will support the school's domestic violence education initiatives," explained Luigi Monaco, director of the P4P Career Academy. "We will recruit students who have been victims of domestic violence in Essex County, and attempt to break the cycle of years of abusive behavior by training them to work in child-care centers with DYFS protective-custody children of abusive households."

“We are tremendously grateful for the continuing friendship of the Investors Foundation,” said P4P CEO and Executive Director Beverly Lynn.  “Our mission is now in its 30th year, thanks in part to the generosity of the donors and corporate citizens in our community."
