The Board of Trustees of the Mt. Prospect Partnership (MPP) invites the public to attend a Hot Rod & Classic Car Show in Newark’s Forest Hill neighborhood Sunday, Sept. 8 from 11 am till 4 pm. The event is being sponsored by Wells Fargo and the North Ward Center. Mt. Prospect Partnership has also partnered with the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the event to help raise awareness and financial support for the fight against breast cancer. The rain date is Sept. 15.
The show takes place on Mt. Prospect Avenue between Elwood Avenue and Heller Parkway.
Over $1,000 will be awarded for Best Hot Rod, Best Muscle Car, Best Custom Car and Best Antique/Nostalgic Vehicle. Event highlights include a special visit by Lou “Batman” Magnifico and his 1960’s replica Batmobile along with live music, food vendors and children’s entertainment. Captain America will also make an appearance to join his fellow superhero. Former New York Giant Stephen Baker "The Touchdown Maker" will also be on hand. Baker was a part of the Giants Super Bowl XXV championship team in 1990.
“The preregistration fee of $15 ($20 day of event) is a minimal amount for such a great event, such great prizes and for such a worthy cause,” stated Michael Sheehan, President of the Mt. Prospect Partnership. “All vehicle participants will receive a t-shirt commemorating this first ever event along with the possibility of winning a share of the $1000 in prize money.”
Petolino said the street will be closed to vehicular traffic during the event with between 75 and 100 cars expected to be on display. Absolutely no bicycles or skateboards will be allowed in the display area.
Staging of the vehicles will start on the day of the event between the hours of 8 and 10 am. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
