Ironbound District Presents Community Service Awards

City officials, businesspeople recognized for contributions

The Ironbound Business Improvement District (IBID) presented community service awards to Karim Arnold, Director of Neighborhood Services, City of Newark; Hank Asher, Business Manager of Covanta Essex Company, Newark; Kim Greene, Director of Sanitation Services, City of Newark; Capt. Greg Quackenbush, Newark Police Department; Tracie Shorte, Manager, Permits, City of Newark; Sumei MultiDisciplinary Arts Center, Newark; and Melvin Waldrop, Exec. Assistant to the Business Administrator, City of Newark. The awards were presented in recognition of outstanding contributions, commitment and service to the betterment of the City of Newark and the Ironbound community.

In presenting the awards at the IBID’s annual end-of-year gathering in December, President Steven T. Yglesias noted the personal ties to Newark and the Ironbound community of each award recipient. Councilman Augusto Amador, a 2008 Community Service Award winner, congratulated this year’s award recipients, and underscored the importance of building upon the partnerships that support the Ironbound’s continued success and growth and revitalization efforts throughout the city.

“From helping our community become cleaner and safer, to supporting the Ironbound’s artistic and cultural heritage, to making our district run more efficiently and effectively on behalf of the people who live and work in the Ironbound and the thousands of visitors we welcome each year, each of these individuals has contributed to cooperative efforts in support of a shared vision for Newark and the Ironbound District,” said Seth A. Grossman, Ph.D., the IBID’s Executive Director.
