Mount Prospect Tree Lighting Dec. 13

Third annual event will feature free photos with Santa

'Tis the season!

The Mount Prospect Partnership and North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos Jr. will host the third annual Christmas tree lighting Thursday, Dec. 13 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Residents and local businesses are invited to the gathering that will also include hot cocoa, holiday treats, dancing, pictures with Santa and a performance by the Newark Boys Chorus.

The day will be filled with holiday cheer, starting at 1 p.m. with a visit from Santa, escorted by the Newark Fire Department, to local schools. Free photos with Father Christmas will begin at 4:30 p.m. at 650 Mount Prospect Ave. The event will cap with the tree-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m.

"Our holiday celebration has grown each time we have presented it, and we expect this year to be bigger and better than ever," said the partnership's Executive Director Frank Petolino. "The Partnership is pleased to sponsor the event because it brings people together, showcases local businesses and restaurants and highlights the clean, safe and welcoming environment on Mount Prospect Avenue.

"After the difficulties our community endured in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, we look forward to this year’s celebration on Dec. 13, and encourage everyone to support Mount Prospect businesses and restaurants by shopping and dining locally during the holiday season and throughout the year," he added.
