Newark Hosting King Celebration Monday Night

Event is open to public but seating is limited

Mayor Cory A. Booker, the Newark Municipal Council, Department of Neighborhood and Recreational Services Director Tharien Karim Arnold, and the Office of Communications will hold the City of Newark’s 25th Anniversary Celebration of “Sing in Praise of King” observance on Monday, Jan. 28  at 6 pm at First Baptist Peddie Memorial Church, 572 Broad St., in Newark. This event is being presented by the City of Newark’s Office of Communications and Department of Neighborhood and Recreational Services.

The keynote speaker will be National Association for the Advancement of Colored People National Board of Directors Chairman Roslyn M. Brock.
 
There will be special performances by Rev. Stef and Jubilation. Under the direction of Reverend Stefanie R. Minatee, the culturally mixed choir was formed in 1998 in Newark. The choir has performed nationally and overseas, and participated in the EMI compilation CD, “Oh Happy Day,” singing the title track with Queen Latifah. The CD earned a Grammy in February 2010. Jubilation in Concert’s 2004 album with Ray Charles, entitled, “Ray Charles Celebrates a Gospel Christmas with the Voices of Jubilation,” climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard Gospel Charts.
