Newark to Get its Own Line of Sneakers, Courtesy of Shaq

Reebok's "Brick City" athletic shoe slated for release this week

Shaquille O’Neal, one of Newark’s favorite sons, is paying tribute to his hometown in an especially fitting way for a basketball legend -- with a sneaker.

This month, O’Neal will be releasing the Reebok Shaq Attack “Brick City” line of footwear, according to a report on DRJays.com. The release includes a video set in Newark and co-starring another prominent city native, the musician Redman.

The video, shot in Newark, shows O’Neal returning to the neighborhood where he spent much of his youth while being raised by his grandparents. “Playing here wasn’t a privilege, it was a dream,” O’Neal intones in a voiceover.
