Teens Visit Newark for Weeklong Volunteer Effort

Students of Saint Peter's Prep School in Jersey City will visit various community sites in Newark dedicated to helping others, including inner-city children and the homeless.

Teens of the suburbs are giving up their quiet homes in exchange for the hustle of urban life as part of an immersion volunteer effort.

New Community Corporation, a Newark-based nonprofit offering community development services to a variety of people, are hosting 12 students from the all-boys Saint Peter’s Prep School in Jersey City July 28 to Aug. 1.

The boys will work with inner city children, job seekers, the elderly and formerly homeless during their visit. The teens will visit a new area and organization each day of the week.

The students will also have the chance to meet with New Community Corporation's CEO Richard Rohrman and join him on a tour of Newark.

“We are excited to continue partnering with Saint Peter’s Prep School to expose students to some of the real challenges of living in Newark, but to also plant seeds of inspiration and hope in young minds as they see the work New Community does to serve inner city residents,” Rohrman said.
