Toy Giveaway This Saturday; Registration Required

Donations of new toys being accepted through Friday

The City of Newark is hosting a “White Christmas Holiday Festival” for Newark youth 15 and under this Saturday, Dec. 22 from 11 am to 4:30 pm at the John F. Kennedy Recreation Center, 211 W. Kinney St. The event includes a toy giveaway, free photos with Santa, a visit from Batman and other activities.

The event is open to all Newark families but pre-registration is required. Families may register at any city recreation facility (except Boylan Street, which is closed due to Hurricane Sandy damage) from 11:30 am through 7:30 pm through Friday.
 
The Newark Police Department’s Division of Community Relations is coordinating the collection of toys for the festival, and all police precincts are participating in the drive. Anyone  who wishes to donate toys can do so until Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at all precincts, and the police facilities at 31 Green St, 22 Franklin St, 472 Orange St, and 43 Dickerson St. The police department asks that donations be limited to new toys only.
 
The festival is sponsored by the Division of Recreation/Cultural Affairs, the Newark Police Department, the Police Athletic League, the Newark Fire Department, and Who I Am, Inc.
