The Brick City Comedy Revue celebrates the artistic rebirth of Downtown Newark with humor appealing to the varying tastes, styles and cultures abundant with students and professionals living in the area.

Serra, a resident of the prominently Portuguese Ironbound District, and Williams, who was drawn to the city from New York because of its rich history and unique blend of people, are looking forward to being a part of Newark’s ongoing cultural renaissance.

“Newark is the largest city in New Jersey, people should be able to see good comedians before they make it the Prudential Center, NJPAC or Newark Symphony Hall,” said Williams. “We are excited to expose the city to some very funny comedians/comediennes each month at a place that Steve and I believe is the poster child of Downtown Newark’s new vibe.”

The Kilkenny Alehouse is one of the older Newark establishments located at Central Avenue and Halsey Street. In recent years, Halsey Street has seen an influx of new and redeveloped retail and dining options that bridge the gap between Downtown and University Heights.

“The Brick City Comedy Revue appeals to anyone looking for a laugh,” said Serra. “We invite all Newark residents, college students and even people from neighboring towns to come to Kilkenny Alehouse on the last Thursday of every month to check us out and experience the revitalization of Downtown Newark for yourself—with a cold drink in hand and some funny folks on stage.”

Comedienne Calise Hawkins will headline the Revue’s April 24 debut. Hawkins has appeared on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" on NBC; "Russell Simmons Presents Stand Up at the El Rey" on Comedy Central; "Stand Up In Stilettos" on the TV Guide Channel; "Gotham Live" on AXS TV; two episodes of "Nick Mom Night Out" on Nick Jr. and two seasons of "Last Comic Standing" on NBC.
