The Weekender: Last Chance for Planetarium Shows

Pre-season Youth Golf Day at Weequahic Park Saturday

Here are just a few events happening in the area this weekend. Click on "events" on the homepage to see more.

: Newark Museum, 49 Washington St., Newark
WHEN: "Seven Wonders:" Fridays, 2 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday  
2 and 4 p.m. Recommended for adults and children ages 9 and up. (40 minutes)
"The Little Star that Could:" Saturday and Sundays, 1 and 3 p.m. Recommended for children ages 5 to 8. (35 minutes)
COST: Planetarium admission: Adults $5; children under 12, seniors, and college students $3, in addition to the Museum Admission.

: Senior Citizens Building, Belleville 
WHEN: Friday, 12:30 p.m.
WHY GO: Belleville Seniors meet every Friday, with coffee, buns and bingo following. The Club offers trips top Atlantic City, parties and more. New members are always welcome.

WHY GO: Play Wii, Xbox, or bring your own DS to play each other.

WHAT:

: 4th Wall Theatre, 449 Franklin St., Bloomfield
WHEN: Friday, Saturday: 8 p.m.; Sunday, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
WHY GO: The play is a dark comedy with music, and tells the story of three misfit teenagers, Howie, Solomon and Diwata, and their attempts to expose a sex scandal which could rock both their school and town. Recommended for mature audiences.
COST: General admission, $20; Senior, $16; Students, $15

WHAT:

WHEN: Saturday, 1 p.m.
WHY GO: The New Jersey PGA Section/New Jersey Golf Foundation is hosting a Pre-Season Youth Golf Day. Boys and girls in the community (and parents) are invited to a FREE on-course golf experience, highlighted by free golf instruction from PGA Professionals, and the opportunity to test your putting skills against your friends.

WHY GO: Challenge your chess skills and have fun!

: New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark
WHEN: Saturday, 11 a.m.
WHY GO: The Laurie Berkner Band will take you on a musical adventure while we sing about and celebrate all kinds of different animals, from the smallest insects to the biggest mammals, and lots of animals in between!
COST: $18, $28 and $38

WHAT: WHERE: Wesley United Methodist Church, 225 Washington Ave., Belleville
WHEN:  Saturday, 3-4:30 p.m.
WHY GO: Our Kids Club is a little bit of Vacation Bible School each week. We play games, do crafts, learn about the Bible, and give kids the chance to serve at nursing homes and community meals. All elementary-aged kids are invited to join.

Brookdale Christian Church, 1350 Broad St., Bloomfield
WHEN: Sunday, 2 p.m.
WHY GO: This weekly meeting gathers to discuss things pertaining to spiritual life, growth, and biblical knowledge. It works to develop Christian community, overstepping denominational lines and back grounds, and centering our love for one another and our relationships around Jesus Christ

WHAT: WHERE: Nutley, townwide
WHEN: Saturday, 8:30-9:30 p.m.
WHAT: This event was created to raise awareness of our the issues our planet faces due to climate change. We can all do our part by reducing our carbon footprint. For one hour, all are asked to turn off lights and unplug non-essential appliances. To pledge your participation, click here.
