Ferry Street Store Sells $1M Lottery Ticket

Ferry 99 sells one of two $1 million Powerball tickets

Someone is $1 million richer after purchasing a winning Powerball lottery ticket from a Newark store.

The winning ticket, which has not yet been claimed, was purchased from Ferry 99, a shop in the city's East Ward, lottery officials announced Monday.

There was no jackpot winner of the Powerball game, which held its drawing on Saturday, but another $1 million winning Powerball ticket was sold in Cape May County. Four other $10,000 tickets were sold in New Jersey.

The winning numbers for the Saturday drawing were: 22, 32, 37, 44 and 50. The red powerball number was 34. The two $1 million winners matched all five numbers to collect the second-place prize.

"I go with my sisters to Florida each year so I guess I’ll be treating them this year," said the winner with the Cape May ticket, who was not identified.

The New Jersey Powerball jackpot is now a record-breaking $425 million, the largest in history, lottery officials said.

"Buy your tickets before the game closes on Wednesday around 10 p.m.,” said the lottery’s Executive Director Carole Hedinger. "This $425 million jackpot is an opportunity that does not come around often."

A manager from Ferry 99 was not immediately available to comment. The store will net $500 for selling the winning ticket.

Newark is hot when it comes to selling winning lottery tickets. In August, Garden Cafe sold its third winning ticket in one year. The shop, located in the cafeteria of University Hospital, has sold a winning Jersey Cash 5 ticket worth $34,613, another one worth $213,105 and a $1 million Mega Millions Megaplier ticket.
