Councilman Distributing Free Turkeys Through Monday

Ramos hopes to deliver thousands in annual donation

North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos has announced that he plans to distribute more than 2,000 turkeys at dozens of locations in every ward of the City of Newark beginning Friday.

“This year Thanksgiving comes only a few weeks after one of the worst storms in history caused havoc in Newark,” Ramos said. “Many of our residents who were already struggling in this tough economy lost wages and food when their power went out after Hurricane Sandy.”

The turkey distribution began Friday and runs through Monday. Ramos and his staff will bring the turkeys to senior buildings, schools, churches, adult medical day care centers and community centers.

After Monday, if there are surplus turkeys, Ramos said his office will accommodate additional request for families on a waiting list. His office can be reached by calling 973-733-5137.

Ramos has been giving turkeys for Thanksgiving since he was first elected to the municipal council in 2006. This is Ramos’ largest turkey distribution to date.

(Editor’s note: the times when turkeys will be distributed Sunday and Monday had yet to be determined as of Friday afternoon. Those times will be included once the scheduling has been finalized.)
