Gala Raises $450K for Afterschool Center

Facility to open in January

Mayor Cory Booker last Thursday attended a benefit dinner for the All Stars Project, which is opening the New Jersey All Stars Center for Afterschool Development at 33 Washington St. in Newark in January.

The benefit, held at the Robert Treat Hotel, raised $450,000 for the center, billed as the first of its kind in the nation.

The new center is the cornerstone of the All Stars’ $9.2 million expansion campaign that was announced in 2010. To date, more than $7.2 million has been raised towards the goal through the All Stars private funding model supported by thousands of individual donors and hundreds of businesses. Key funders and attendees at the dinner included Tiffany and Co., PSEG, MetLife and D&B.

Kevin Cummings, CEO of Investors Bank, was honored for his leadership and support of the All Stars Project of New Jersey and PricewaterhouseCoopers was recognized as a “Corporation That Cares.”

Investors Saving Bank has been a longtime partner of the All Stars, providing workshops and internships for students of the All Stars’ Development School for Youth (DSY), one of the two core programs of the All Stars in which young people receive leadership training and paid summer internships in partnership with the business community. Investors has also pledged $100,000 to the All Stars Expansion Campaign. PwC is being recognized for its longtime partnership with the All Stars DSY and recently gave a $50,000 gift to the Expansion Campaign.
