Prom gowns and dressy dresses will be offered by “Catherine’s Closet” on Saturday, May 5th
Prom gowns and dressy dresses will be offered by “Catherine’s Closet” on Saturday, May 5th at 550 Broad Street in Newark (9am-12pm). No ID is required, and all women are welcome to shop for beautiful dresses, accessories, purses and shoes at incredibly low prices!
"Catherine’s Closet” is a non-profit group whose goal is to enable young women to dress beautifully without the stress of high retail store prices. The organization was named after an East Orange, NJ high-school honor student who tragically lost her life in a car accident.

Each year, the organization collects hundreds of gently used prom gowns and dressy dresses as well as new gowns from generous manufacturers. Volunteers sort, hang, and display these dresses in a “store-like” setting. When the young ladies arrive, “personal shoppers” greet them and assist with trying on the dresses and finding accessories to match. The cost is a minimal fee of $20 per gown or $5 per accessory, and the proceeds are then distributed in the form of scholarships. This is Catherine’s Closet’s eleventh year of community service, and many girls from Newark are the recipients.
