Newark Nonprofits Receive Tens of Thousands in Grants

Recipients include the Ironbound Community Corp. and the Greater Newark Conservancy

The Horizon Foundation of New Jersey has awarded 35 grants totalling nearly $700,000 to charitable organizations across the state, including several organizations in the city, Horizon announced.

The awardees include the Greater Newark Conservancy, which received $40,000 for its Nutrition Education Program; The Newark Arts Council, which will use its $15,000 grant for the arts education program it sponsors in city schools; $25,000 to support the Ironbound Community Corp.’s Children’s Asthma Program; and $10,000 to the Renaissance Newark Foundation to support The Rule, a documentary about the success of St. Benedict’s Prep in preparing low-income minority students for college.

“The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey is committed to supporting non-profit organizations that are making a positive impact in the lives of New Jersey residents,” said Robert A. Marino, chairman of the Board of Directors of The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey and Chairman and CEO of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.  “We commend these organizations for their work and proudly support their efforts to enrich the quality of life in New Jersey’s communities.”
