Father's Day is Over

DNA Testing for Paternity

For the last month, I have been watching all the advertisements gearing up to Father's Day. What's the best gift, who's the best dad, what was your dad's best advice, recipe, fun thing to do.  It wasn't until Saturday, when listening to the radio that some of the sad news regarding Father's Day started to surface.  41% of children are born to single parents - those statistics break up into +75% of African American children are born to single parents, +50% of Hispanic children are born to single parents and +35% of white children are born to single parents.  I guess our society still does hold marriage out to be the best place for children to be born otherwise we wouldn't compile statistics on those born outside of marriage.  Although in my business it is sad for any man to assume that the child of his wife, is his biological child.  Mandatory DNA testing for all children born today is already in effect - that is to determine any genetic mutations present.  At the same time, a truly patient centric nurse could offer the new mom or dad - the local DNA Lady's telephone number, in case they want to confirm paternity.  Why go through life or even a minute, in doubt, when Peace of Mind Paternity tests are easily obtained as long as mom agrees.  On the other hand, why put everyone through the stress of Family Court Appearances when your local DNA Lady can resolve and remove any doubt in 3 business days.  Just a thought, as we move into the 9 months after Super Storm Sandy - I'm sure there were a number of bundles of joy conceived on some of the cold nights that followed Super Storm Sandy and now that NJ is back from the brink - every child should know his or her biological parents.  We all start out with the same opportunities - give each child his or her rightful information from birth.
