After a stellar season in Newark, righty Omar Javier will join the San Francisco Giants organization in 2013.

The Newark Bears proudly announce that pitcher Omar Javier will enter affiliated baseball after signing a minor-league contract with the San Francisco Giants. The right-hander’s contract was purchased by the Giants on Monday.

Javier, a native of the Dominican Republic, signed with the Bears as a free agent on August 2. He started six games for Newark, posting a 2-2 record and a 3.74 ERA over 33.2 innings pitched. He struck out 36 batters while allowing 33 hits and 18 walks.

He becomes the first member of the Bears to make the jump to affiliated ball in 2012. He will head to spring training with San Francisco and will have an opportunity to make the club’s Double-A affiliate.
