Arrests by Sheriff's Officers Net Crack, Pot and Heroin

Two charged in separate incidents this week

The Essex County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men in Newark this week, seizing large quantities of crack, heroin and marijuana, Sheriff Armando Fontoura said in a statement.

Bureau of Narcotics detectives, conducting an investigation with Essex Fells police, conducted surveillance of a first-floor apartment on N. 5th Street Tuesday night, where they reportedly witnessed the driver of a Ford Taurus speak with Rodney “Logic” Little, 34, who was the target of the investigation.

Essex Fells police and sheriff’s detectives watched as Little exchanged what appeared to be drugs for cash with the driver. Law enforcement then approached the apartment and forced their way in after Little failed to answer to repeated knocks, Fontoura said.

Police found 826 bags of marijuana in the apartment worth about $8,000, Fontoura said. Little, of Newark, was arrested and charged with several narcotics violations. He was being held on $80,000 bail earlier this week.

A traffic stop Wednesday night led to the arrest of a second man,  Naim Moore, 23, of Newark. Officers stopped a car on Park Drive near Branch Brook Park after noticing the occupants were not wearing seat belts, Fontoura said.

Moore, a passenger in the car who had been arrested in June on a gun-possession charge, was ordered out of the car and allegedly attempted to run. Officers tackled him to the ground and later found him in possession of 65 vials of crack and 29 envelopes of heroin.

Moore was charged with resisting arrest, obstruction of the administration of law and several narcotics offenses. He was being held on $40,000 bail earlier this week.
