A member of the Bloods street gang was sentenced yesterday after admitting that he helped an Arizona prison inmate sell drugs in Newark, the US Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
Ricky Coleman, 39, who is also known as “Pool Stick” or “Sticks,” had already pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy for working with Altariq Gumbs, who was imprisoned in Arizona, to sell heroin here. Coleman, a member of the Brick City Brims -- part of the Fruit Town Brims set of the Bloods street gang -- sold the drug to an informant on four occasions between October 2008 and March 2009. In May and June 2009, Coleman, working with another Brick City Brims member, then sent the proceeds of the sales to a ranking member of the gang incarcerated in Northern State Prison in Newark.
Coleman was sentenced to more than 12 and a half years in prison and an additional three years of supervised release by US District Judge Stanley Chesler.
Gumbs, the Arizona prisoner, has also pleaded guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced later this month.
