Citizen's Tip Leads to Alleged Drug Warehouse

Crack, heroin and guns found at Newark apartment, police say

Newark police Tuesday arrested two men who were used a N. 6th Street apartment to store and package heroin and crack, the department said in a statement.

Officers got a tip that drugs and guns were being kept at 801 N. 6th St. When detectives arrived at the address, Anthony Stone, 63, opened the door, allegedly allowing detectives to see Edward Thompson, 34, bagging up crack cocaine. More than 600 bags of crack, along with 180 envelopes of heroin and three loaded guns were found, police said.

Stone and Thompson were arrested on several drugs and weapons charges. More charges may be pending as the investigation continues, police said this week.

“I applaud the citizen that called the police department to report this suspicious activity that led to the arrest of two suspects with a large quantity of narcotics and three loaded handguns.  This is another example of the community assisting the Police Department by providing tips of illegal activity.  I continue to encourage the community to call the departments’ 24-hour anonymous tip line at 877-NWK-TIPS,”said Police Director Samuel DeMaio.
