Fast-Food Bag Contained a Variety of Drugs, Sheriff Says

Newark man allegedly had crack, heroin and marijuana.

A city man was arrested after Essex County sheriff’s officers discovered narcotics in a fast-food bag, Sheriff Armando Fontoura said.

Officers patrolling near 111 S. 10th St. Monday afternoon witnessed Anthony Taylor, 25, pulling items from a Popeye’s chicken bag and conducting what appeared to be a drug sale, Fontoura said.

Officers approached and searched the bag, which contained 80 bags of heroin, 68 containers of crack cocaine, another bag containing 10 ounces of cocaine and nearly 40 bags of marijuana, Fontoura said.

"Given the variety of narcotics in his possession, the suspect was apparently catering to all tastes," Fontoura said.

Taylor was being held on $35,000 bail Tuesday after being charged with several narcotics violations.
