Deaths of 6 Relatives Killed in Father's Day Blaze Ruled Accidental

Autopsies complete, investigation remains ongoing into Newark fire.

The deaths of six relatives killed in the Newark Father's Day blaze have all been ruled accidental, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday.

According to the prosecutor's office, Stephon Sydney, Noreen Johnson and Salome Stewart all died of “smoke and carbon monoxide inhalation.”

Zion Forbes, Reginald Stewart and Natasha Kinsale died of smoke inhalation, the prosecutor's office said.

The early-morning blaze Sunday quickly engulfed the home in the 800 block of South 15th Street in the city's South Ward.

There were no smoke detectors in the home and plastic flower decorations that covered the porch and climbed up to the second floor further fueled the fire, the prosector's office said earlier this week.
