Dispute May Have Led to Fatal Shooting in Newark Friday

Scotch Plains man killed shortly after midnight

A Scotch Plains man was shot and killed in Newark early Friday, Newark police and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Jihad Anderson, 22, was shot near Broadway and Clay Street shortly after midnight. He was taken to St. Michael’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead less than a half-hour later. Investigators believe Anderson may have been shot following an argument with the shooter.
