East Orange Man Admits to Role in Carjacking

NPD detective caught Tullies following car, foot chase

A 20-year-old East Orange man pleaded guilty Wednesday to taking a car at gunpoint in 2012 and leading a Newark police detective on a high-speed chase, the office of US Attorney Paul Fishman announced.

Nathaniel Tullies admitted that on Nov. 8, 2012, he and an accomplice entered a Chevy Impala as the driver was opening up a garage door at an Ann Street location. The men, who were armed, drove off in the car.

Newark police responded minutes after the victim reported the robbery and spotted the vehicle, chasing it until it crashed on Rt. 1 and 9. The detective who pursued the vehicle then chased down Tullies on foot and arrested him. The accomplice escaped and remains at large, a Fishman spokesman said Thursday.
