East Orange Men Arrested in Newark on Narcotics Charges

Brothers were allegedly dealing from a city street corner, sheriff's office says.

Two brothers from East Orange were arrested Thursday by Essex County Sheriff’s detectives and charged with dealing drugs from a Newark street corner, the agency said in a statement.

Bureau of Narcotics detectives reportedly witnessed Colby Richardson, 24, and his 29-year-old brother Jeffrey exchange cash for drugs with Diana Baldwin, 46, of Linden, who drove up to the men as they stood at Elizabeth Avenue and East Alpine Street.

Sheriff’s officers moved in after Colby Richardson accepted cash from Baldwin and Jeffrey Richardson entered a nearby alleyway, returning with items he handed over to Baldwin, spokesman Kevin Lynch said.

Baldwin was stopped after a few blocks and was found in possession of five vials of crack cocaine, Lynch said. Simultaneously, another squad of sheriff’s detectives detained the Richardsons while the alleyway was searched.  Officers reportedly found 77 glassine envelopes of heroin, stamped “KICK ASS 2” in red ink, and 50 vials of crack cocaine.

The brothers were being held on $50,000 bail last week. Baldwin was charged and released, Lynch said.
