Four Charged with Fatal Carjacking to be Arraigned Jan. 8

Newark, Irvington men charged with murder, conspiracy, carjacking

The four men charged in the fatal carjacking of a Hoboken attorney at the Short Hills mall earlier this month will be arraigned Jan. 8, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

The men have been charged with killing Dustin Friedland, 30, on Dec. 15 and stealing the Range Rover he was traveling in with his wife, who was unharmed. The vehicle was later recovered in Newark. The four were all arrested Dec. 20 and 21 and will appear before Judge Peter Vazquez at 9 am.

Hanif Thompson, 29, of Irvington was arrested in Irvington. Karif Ford, 31, of Newark was arrested in Newark; Basim Henry, 32, of Newark was arrested at a hotel in Easton, Pa., by the FBI Task Force and federal marshals; and Kevin Roberts, 33, of Newark was arrested in Newark.

All four have been charged with murder, felony murder, carjacking, conspiracy, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The four were each being held on $2 million bail earlier this week.
