Man Faces Drug, Weapons Charges After Being Stopped by Detectives

Newark detectives grew suspicious when Dunn quickly tried to leave area, police said

Newark police Wednesday arrested a 27-year-old man on weapons and narcotics charges, the department said in a statement.


Detectives from the department’s Narcotics and Gang Enforcement Division spotted Salik Dunn on the 200 block of South Orange Avenue shortly after 9 pm. The detectives grew suspicious when Dunn tried first to hide, then abruptly walk away from the area while clutching his waistband, police said.


After being stopped, detectives reportedly found Dunn in possession of a loaded .45-caliber handgun and 31 bags of crack cocaine. He was charged with several offenses, including possessing a handgun while committing a drug-related crime, possession of narcotics and possession with intent to distribute.

" I commend the Newark Police Department's Narcotics and Gang Enforcement Division for their aggressive and dedicated work which led to the apprehension of this individual and the removal of another handgun from the streets,” Police Director Samuel DeMaio said.
