A man wanted in connection with the murder of a 12-year-old Jersey City boy in May was arraigned Monday after being arrested by Essex County Sheriff’s officers Saturday night in Newark.
Farrarhd Gunter, 33, of Newark, was spotted by sheriff’s officers around 10 pm Saturday night as he traveled in a Mercury automobile south on Littleton Avenue. Gunter was driving at a high rate of speed, Sheriff Armando Fontoura said.
Gunter reportedly ran a red light before crashing into a taxicab. He was caught while trying to run from the scene, Fontoura said. Officers reportedly found 121 envelopes of heroin and nine baggies of cocaine inside the car.
Gunter is one of three people charged in the shooting death of Gywan Levine Jr., who was killed as he walked down a Jersey City street with his father May 17. Shawn Harris, 33, of Irvington, and Janice S. Everett, 25, of Rahway, are already in custody.
Gunwith eluding, leaving the scene of an accident, hindering prosecution, resisting arrest as well as drug and motor-vehicle violations.
Essex County Judge Marilyn Williams ordered Gunter to be held at the Essex County jail on $100,000 bail.
