Newark Man Charged with Armed Robberies in Verona, West Orange

A 27-year-old Newark man was arrested Thursday morning in Newark and charged with taking part in the armed robberies of a convenience store and a sandwich shop earlier this year, US Attorney Paul Fishman announced.

Officials say Antwon Yarbrough, along with an unidentified accomplice, entered a Krauszer’s food store April 24 dressed in dark clothing, a mask and gloves, then reportedly sealed the door closed with a zip tie while his accomplice held a gun on a clerk. The clerk was later tied up and hit with the gun before the two fled with the cash in the register and several cartons of cigarettes, Fishman’s office said.

Less than a month later, on May 20, Yarbrough is believed to have struck again, this time at a Subway sandwich shop in Verona. Yarborough and two armed accomplices allegedly tied up the employees and again emptied the register. 

Yarbrough has been charged with two counts of robbery and one count of using a weapon during a violent crime. He faces up to 20 years on each of the robbery counts and up to life in prison on the weapons charge, Fishman said.
