Newark Fire Safety Poster Contest Winners Named

'Have Two Ways Out" theme of contest sponsored by the NFD and NPS

The winners of the annual Fire Safety Poster Contest competition, sponsored by the Newark Fire Department and the Newark Public Schools, were treated to a luncheon Wednesday at school district offices on Cedar Street.

The theme of this year’s contest was “Have Two Ways Out,” a reference to the importance of having more than one escape route in the event of a fire.

First-place winners were selected from most grade levels. They are:

Zamir Glover, first grade, Luis Munoz Marin school; Unique Whitley, second grade, Quitman Street; Nafyjiah Henderson, fourth grade, Luis Munoz Marin; Aliyah Fulton, fifth grade, Quitman; Natalie Fernandez, sixth grade, Hawkins Street; Milleni Amaral, seventh grade, Arts High School; Sakou Kroman, Arts; Lila Pan, tenth grade, Central High School; Shareef Green, eleventh grade, Central High;  and Andre Lima, twelfth grade, East Side High.

Nyesha Swint, a East Side High twelfth-grader, won an honorable acknowledgement. In addition, Andre Lima was overall first place, Sakou Kroman overall second and Shareef Green overall third.
