Authorities are searching for a white Honda Civic that could be linked to the murder of Dawn Reddick, the Virginia school teacher in Newark's South Ward late last month.
There is "indication" that the newer model vehicle was involved in the July 29 shooting that occurred outside a Chinese restaurant on Maple Avenue, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced Friday morning during a press conference.
"That investigation is still one that's not just ongoing, but all avenues are open," said Murray. "...We really here beseeching the public for any information they might have about that vehicle."
Essex County Sheriff's Crimestoppers is now offering $15,000 for information leading to the arrest of Reddick's killer after an outraged citizen donated $5,000 to the program, said Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura.
"It is unacceptable to me that the killer - or killers - is still out there, on the lam, free, while she is having to be buried by her family, " said Mayor Cory Booker, who joined Murray and Fontoura in urging the public to report information via the anonymous tip line. "We need help getting Dawn Reddick's killers."
Reddick, 29, an elementary school teacher in Charlottesville, Va., was passing through her native Newark to drop off a nephew when she was shot in the head. Reddick died the following day. It did not appear she was the intended target, Essex County Prosecutor's Office said earlier this month. Two males and a 7-year-old girl were also injured in the shooting.
Officials also , including a 16-year-old boy, have been charged with the murder of Essex County Corrections Officer Debora Ferreira, who in Newark the same weekend Reddick died.
An investigation by ECPO's Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is ongoing. Anyone with information can call ECPO's anonymous tip line at 877-847-7432 or the Newark Police Department tip line at 877-695-8477.
