Fugitive Wanted for Murder Apprehended, Police Say

Fugitive unit also captures man wanted for robbery, according to report.

The Newark Police Department's Fugitive Apprehension Team Wednesday, along with members of the Essex County Homicide Task Force and FBI Task Force, responded to the 100 block of Steuben Street in East Orange in search of 25-year-old Dwayne Campbell.  Campbell, from Orange, is a suspect in a homicide on Nov. 11, 2013, near Chester Avenue and Riverside avenues in Newark.

The victim Ricardo Brown, 35, of Orange. was pronounced dead at the scene.

Campbell is being charged with murder, conspiracy, burglary, kidnapping and weapons charges.

Also on Wednesday the Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested Oscar Morris, who was wanted for a Nov. 9, 2013 robbery in the 200 block of West Kinney Street. Morris, who was on the Newark's Most Wanted List, was located and taken into custody after police received a tip from a resident.  

Morris was found to be in possession of a starter Zoraki revolver starter pistol when he was taken into custody Wednesday morning, police said.

"I am very pleased with the continued success of our Fugitive Apprehension Section who while coming together with the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the F.B.I. Task Force seamlessly arrested two violent and dangerous criminals,” Police Director Samuel DeMaio said.  “I am equally pleased at the partnership between our citizens and the police department. It is through both of these partnerships that we continue to make our streets safer.”
